Faculty Associate Program
The Faculty Associate Program appoints selected faculty and senior administrators/staff from colleges and universities in the LORL Academic Network as "LORL Faculty Associates" and provides support services and reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses for voluntary services to LORL and the General Assembly subsequent to their appointment.
Since LORL was established in 1976, many
of the more than 25,000 faculty members
of the colleges and universities in the LORL
Academic Network have given unselfishly
of their time and talents to assist the
General Assembly through LORL. Their
service has included such activities as
coordinating LORL conferences; assisting
with major LORL projects; serving on LORL
advisory committees; offering
presentations or briefings at LORL-related
legislative workshops, or conferences;
organizing student teams for semester-long
course projects to research major
legislative inquiries; and serving LORL as
informal gatekeepers and referral points to
other faculty at the home institutions.
These services generally have been
uncompensated, and the faculty
volunteers usually have not received
reimbursement for expenses. The Faculty
Associate Program seeks to reduce the
costs of voluntary service and provide
incentives for affiliated faculty to continue
to volunteer.
Faculty Associates are appointed for a two year
session of the General Assembly. The
appointments expire on the date the
session is adjourned sine die and may be
renewed. The key procedural requirement
for appointment is that the faculty
member, the faculty member's home
institution and LORL agree to the
appointment.
